A neighbour knocked on my door

It was the early 1980s, and he was asking if I had any clothes I’d like to donate as he was going on a trip to Eastern Europe.

We gave him some clothes including a winter jacket, and put on a note in the pocket with our contact information. After a couple of months Mission Without Borders sent us a letter and a picture of the family who had received the jacket, and we were asked if we would support this family. That's how my commitment started.

Now I sponsor another family who live in Albania. A couple of years ago, I went on a sponsor trip and met them face to face. It was one of the greatest things I have ever experienced, and even now, I still become emotional just talking about it. It was overwhelming to meet with such incredible hospitality from a family who struggle so hard just to get food on the table.

I am blessed with a good life, and for me it’s a privilege to share what I have with others. Being able to help people in need fills me with deep joy and gratitude. Getting the chance to see for myself what an impact sponsorship has on a family in Albania really encourages me to keep on giving. Having seen with my own eyes the difference that the Mission makes in people’s lives has really brought so much meaning and joy to my life.
